Main opposition leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi denied him access to see incarcerated Zengeza West MP and his Chitungwiza North counterpart Godfrey Sithole at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prisons today.
The CCC president said he waited for three hours, but unfortunately the officer in charge denied them access, insisting he got the directive from Minister Ziyambi to bar him.
Addressing journalists at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, Chamisa described the denial as an “embarrassment, and an abuse of law.”
“It is very sad and regrettable that we had come to see our colleagues honorable members like Sithole and Sikhala, but we are disheartened that just after we had been told to wait about 3 hours, the officer in charge, Mr. Gukurume, indicated that it’s unfortunate that we are not able to see Job Sikhala and other Nyatsike colleagues.
“It is an embarrassment and harassment, it is unacceptable for this kind of abuse of the law,” he said.
Chamisa said it was unlawful for the Justice Minister to give the directive of barring him from accessing his incarcerated lieutenants.
“Apart from being a political figure, I am also a lawyer. I have the right to see any client,” he added.
Sikhala was arrested in June this year facing charges of inciting public violence and obstruction of justice after the death of slain CCC activist More blessing Ali.
The Zengeza West MP, together with Sithole and other 14 CCC activists, has spent well over a hundred days in prison without trial.
