He was shot around 7 PM after he approached a policeman on duty manning the premises.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident to The Herald on Wednesday, saying the man was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.

Asst Comm Nyathi added ZRP is investigating the incident to establish the motive behind the shooting and also to find out why the man had approached the policeman.

“We confirm that there has been a shooting incident at the Russian Embassy where a suspect approached a policeman on duty, and as a result, there was a shooting incident. The suspect is at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

“We will release more details tomorrow, as we are still conducting investigations.

A Harare man who stays close to the Russian Embassy on Fife Avenue told ZimLive that the man was shot at least once.

“There was a sound of gunfire, and we all rushed outside. Not long after there were emergency vehicles with sirens, and the scene was quite crowded.

“A man, who had been shot, was taken away by ambulance. He appeared to be barely clinging to life,” said the neighbour.
