The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a Harare man who was found in possession of 10 grams of cocaine and a LLAMA piston.
Cocaine is a stimulant drug that is derived from the South American coca plant. It is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, since it does have some accepted medical use, but it also carries a high risk for abuse.
Cocaine is used medically as a local anesthetic for some surgeries on the eyes, ears, and throat, but is more often used as a recreational drug.
Posting on their Twitter handle, the police said the suspect was arrested at a house in Helensvale, adding they acted on a tip off to locate where he was residing.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday.
“Similarly, on 29/10/22, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare acted on received information and arrested Devine Sena (37) at a house in Helensvale for illegal dealing in dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“The suspect was found in possession of 10 grams of cocaine and a LLAMA pistol,” reads the post.
The arrest comes at a time when drug abuse is at its peak. Precious life had been lost, with some youths dying of crystal meth (mutoriro) which expects say it kills ones appetite. Crystal meth also affects the central nervous system and can leave users in a deep stupor.
According to a survey done by 263Times in Epworth at Overspill shopping center, youths said lack of employment was a major cause of drug abuse among youths.
