The driver of the Tynwald High School bus involved in a fatal road accident in Nyanga last month has been arrested, a Sunday Mail report claims.
Nyanga police picked Machimbidzofa Chamunorwa in Harare on Tuesday, after he had been on the run for close to three weeks.
He was reportedly arrested in Harare, where he was offering condolences to the parents of the deceased.
MacMillan Mutusva, one of the parents of the deceased, was quoted as saying:
“The driver had been in hiding, and nobody knew about his whereabouts.
“He never showed himself after the horrific incident; he would send his brother and lawyers.”
Chamunorwa reportedly only surfaced after the school head froze his salary.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chikanza, said they are yet to receive reports of the arrest.
The Tynwald High School bus was involved in a fatal accident in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday, 14 October 2022 around 7 PM, with reports suggesting the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
