The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of 6 people who died in a road traffic accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon at the 60 km peg along Kwekwe-Gokwe Road after a truck rammed into a commuter omnibus.
5 people who were aboard the Kwekwe-bound Nissan Caravan died on the spot while another one died upon admission at Kwekwe General Hospital.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the victims have been identified by the next of kin as follows:
Nathan Maphosa a male adult aged 65 from Jojo Village Zhombe,
Beula Ndebele a female juvenile aged 17 from Jojo Village Zhombe,
Moleen Ndlovu a female adult aged 64 from Jojo Village, Zhombe,
Francis Shayauno Mapuranga a male adult aged 38 from Shayauno Village, Gokwe North.
Earnest Chireya a male adult aged 35 from Shayauno Village, Gokwe North,
Patrick Bhasopo a male adult aged 28 from Redcliff, Kwekwe.
Asst Comm Nyathi implored motorists to exercise patience on the roads to avoid accidents that may result in the unnecessary loss of life.
He said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police urge motorists to be patient on the roads and stop driving against the flow of traffic or one-way.
“Above all, motorists should maintain the required braking distance when driving and follow all road rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives on the roads.”
