A Harare woman, Janet Antonio is reported to have died last week (date unspecified) as a result of a brutal physical attack by her husband.
In an incident that has left Kuwadzana 4 residents in shock and disgust, the reportedly popular and affable Janet, popularly know as Mai Tino, is reported to have succumbed to head injuries sustained from physical assault by her husband Admire Musanhi.
It’s alleged that on the day of the assault, Admire Musanhi, who is a barber by profession, arrived home at around 3AM. He is said to have started playing loud music which then resulted in the now late Janet requesting that he lower the volume so as not to disturb the children and fellow tenants, who were all asleep.
This, as reported by neighbours and close friends of the late Janet, is what is said to have incensed Musanhi who then allegedly became violent and started assaulting his wife. He reportedly hit her with clenched fists and slammed her head against the wall repeatedly.
The late Janet is said to have told friends that while assaulting her, Musanhi took out his phone and played a s3x tape which he allegedly showed him having sexual intercourse with his mistress. He reportedly mocked her and told her that his mistress was what a real woman should look like, before continuing to assault her.
Fearing injury, Janet is said to have called out to an elderly neighbour for help. When the neighbour came to see what was happening she had heard people fighting but couldn’t open the door as it was locked. She is then said to have called on a male neighbour who is reported to have broken the door and rescued Janet before taking her to his place where she took shelter until day break.
Both the neighbours confirmed the case but declined to comment nor give their names to our reporters.
Neighbours and friends of the late Janet confirmed the incident but also declined to comment fearing for their lives as Musanhi and his family are alleged to have threatened neighbours against talking to the police or the media about the incident, repotedly boasting that they had protection from a very high level government official and thus could not be touched.
Our reporters spoke to two ladies, who were close friends of the late Janet confirmed the tragic incident but declined to reveal their names or give a video interview but they agreed to give audio interviews, which they did and you can listen to it on this link the interview
Janet passed away last week Tuesday and was buried at her rural home in Rusape.
Contacted for comment on the issue, Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi referred our reporter to Harare provincial spokesperson Inspector Mwanza, but his number wasn’t reachable at the time of publication.
“She was a kind woman. We knew her because we worked with her here at the market. She didn’t have problems with people, but was someone who wanted to be happy and create good relations with everyone,” said a neighbour and friend who declined to be named.
“She was a loving and kind person who always wore a smile on her face. We are heartbroken by her death.” said another name who also declined to be identified.
