A former Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, Jaison Muvhevhi, who has been on the run since Friday last week after he allegedly shot and killed three people, including a senior police officer, has been arrested.
There are conflicting reports about where he was found, with some reports claiming he was arrested by Mozambique police, while others allege he was arrested by citizens in Mutare.
But posting on his Twitter handle, the Permanent Secretary of Information Publicity, Nick Mangwana, confirmed Muvhevhi’s arrest in Mozambique, insisting efforts are being made to bring him back to Zimbabwe.
He said, “he was arrested this morning after he had hijacked a biker at gun point in Manica. He had already crossed into Mozambique and intended to go further. Logistics are currently underway to bring him back. A security team is already in Mozambique,”
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had not yet confirmed Muvhevhi’s arrest.
A video posted on Twitter shows men who appear to be Mozambican police officers wrestling the suspect who is lying on the ground while they tie his hands with a rope.
The video is captioned “Fugitive cop killer Jaison Muvevi arrested by citizens in Mutare”.
