The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested Boss Dhama, a Mbare-based concert organizer and music promoter who has been on the run for several days.
Dhama, whose real name is Simbarashe Chanachimwe (31) was being sought by the police in connection with drug-related offences.
Police on Wednesday confirmed Boss Dhama’s arrest through a statement posted on the ZRP official Twitter page.
The statement reads, “The ZRP has arrested Simbarashe Chanachimwe (31), alias Dama, who was being sought by the police in connection with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
“This follows a raid that was conducted by the police at the suspect’s drug base at Block 14 Matapi Flats, Mbare Harare on 09/02/23 at around 0400 hours.
“Police recovered 26 sachets of dagga and one plant of mbanje measuring 1.7 metres.”
Meanwhile, Norton Independent MP Temba Mliswa said the government should look at issues such as resolving economic challenges and high unemployment as forces that have created the drug epidemic in the country.
“I am grateful for the current operation by government but I remain concerned about the macro situation which has created this problem. Drug abuse is a symptom of bigger issues. We should not be lulled into a false sense of security that such operations will effectively curtail the issue,” Mliswa said.
Up to now, ZRP has arrested more than 500 people for drugs and illicit substance related charges in the last five days, taking the total number of culprits apprehended to 2 175.
