Zimbabwean News You Can Trust.

The much anticipated, 2023 National Arts and Merit Awards (NAMA) will be conducted this coming Saturday in Harare at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

The event which will honor outstanding artists, who performed well in 2022 will be turning 21 years since it’s promulgation in 2002.

Prominent music artists like Ammara Brown, Holy Ten, Herman, Mai TT and many more will grace the flashy occasion on February 25.

The theme for this year’s NAMA Awards is “unlocking dreams”.

Addressing journalists at a Press Conference in Harare on Wednesday, Executive Director of NAMA, Napoleon Nyanhi explained the deeper meaning of 2023’s unique theme.

He said, “The theme for the NAMA 2021 is unlocking dreams. Unlocking dreams speaks of a key that unlocks. A key is because we are turning 21 as NAMA and when you are turning 21 you are given the key to life.

“We decided how are we going to use the key for and we said let’s use the key to unlock the keys of artists in this country so that’s what we really endeavor to do with NAMA.”

Meanwhile, general tickets are costing USD$10 dollars with VIP tickets sitting at USD$30.

NAMA is the premier award given by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in recognition of outstanding achievements in the arts and culture.

The inaugural NAMA was held in February 2002 honoring artists who excelled in 2001.

Since then, NAMA award ceremonies have been held in February of each year to recognise artists who would have excelled in the previous year.
