President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially opened the Epworth Magistrate court in Harare today.
The new court is part of Government’s broader goal of bringing courts closer to the people, for the efficient administration of justice.
The main building of the Epworth complex will house two courtrooms for two magistrates courts, as well as eight offices and ablution facilities.
Since the court will handle criminal cases, holding cells have been constructed to meet Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) specifications, with separate sections for men, women and juveniles.
Speaking at the official opening of the magistrate court Mnangagwa said the project is part of government’s efforts to foster “commitment towards the decentralization and devolution of essential services”.
He said, ““The construction of this court is yet another milestone which attests to my Administration’s commitment towards the decentralization and devolution of essential services. It guarantees enhanced access to resources and services, including courts of law, by the majority”
Before the launch the Zanu Pf first secretary had chaired the resource mobilisation meeting for the tropical cyclone Freddy disaster victims in Malawi, at State House.
