I Am Not A Zanu PF Puppet- Mwonzora

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora has distanced himself from Zanu PF.

He said this at a presser held at the MDC Headquarters in Harare yesterday. The presser was held to address Mwonzora’s recent court loss, in which he sought to have the Constitutional court to declare the recently gazetted ZEC delimitation report as invalid and postpone elections to pave way for a fresh delimitation.

The opposition leader scoffed at the widely held beliefs that he is a Zanu Pf puppet, arguing that he would have won the court case had he been on the ruling party’s payroll.

“For you to know whether a person is a proxy of Zanu PF you watch their actions.

“For your own information, the respondents in my court application were ZEC, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Minister of Justice. Those are people whom l sued at the constitutional court so how can l sue my friend? How can l sue the people that l’m working with? Does that make sense?- quipped Mwonzora.

The former Nyanga South legislator also said that he was making a fresh application at the High Court, seeking to stall the elections and compel ZEC to make a fresh delimitation exercise.

“What the constitutional court did has opened an avenue for us and the avenue is to file another High Court application seeking exactly the same relief.

“The issues that we raised in the constitutional court are exactly the same issues that we are going to raise in the high Court,” he said.

In his ruling on behalf of the entire Constitutional Court bench, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said the court had no mandate to set aside ZEC’s delimitation report.

Mwonzora wanted the court to declare the delimitation invalid, and compel President Emmerson Mnangagwa to proclaim an election date only after production of a new delimitation report.
