Zim Army Issues Bogus Soldiers Alert

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has issued an alert, warning members of the public to be on the lookout for  “bogus soldiers”.

In a press statement released today, the Military said bogus soldiers are on the prowl and are impersonating military personnel for the purposes of conning ordinary people of their valuables.

In the press statement, the ZNA spokesperson, Colonel Alphios Makotore, said the bogus soldiers are using stolen or fake military identity cards and uniforms to dupe civilians.

Colonel Makotore assured the public that the Army through its Military Police branch is working in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to bring the alleged perpetrators to book, adding that several culprits have already been arrested.

“Those who have been arrested include Wiseman Makombe of Tafara in Harare, Privilege Mapfumo of Tynwald South in Harare, Bornface Chinhamo of Glenwood Park in Harare, Tafadzwa Mukuze of Mutare, Learnmore Ngwenyaya of Kuwadzana in Harare, Ngonidzashe Samuel Mapfumo of Harare and Bornface Muzambe Mashingaidze of Rujeko in Chinhoi,” he said.

Col Makotore also urged members of the public to report anyone found to be unnecessarily flashing their military identity cards.

“Members of the public are advised to report anyone flashing out his or her military card or in possession of military uniforms to the nearest police station,” he said.
