Breaking: MDC Expels Morgan Komichi

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

The MDC has expelled Senator Morgan Komichi from the party.

The expulsion comes after Komichi held a press conference in Harare yesterday, where he announced a brake away formation termed the United MDC.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Komichi urged all disgruntled MDC party members to join his new establishment.

He added that his political outfit would focus on “restoring the unique identity of the MDC”, as it was during the days of the late former Zimbabwean Prime Minister, Dr. Morgan Tsvangirai.

In a statement on Thursday, the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC party announced the expulsion of former Senator. They also barred him from using their party name and symbols.

“First and foremost, we wish to clarify that the actions taken by Mr. Komichi are not endorsed by the MDC, and that we firmly believe in a united front that represents the aspirations and values of our party and its supporters. Mr. Komichi’s decision to initiate his own political party means that he automatically ceases to be a member of the MDC.

“Furthermore, it is important to highlight that Mr. Komichi is not authorized, either by the party constitution or our country’s constitution, to use the MDC name, symbol, or logo for his new political venture,” reads the statement.

The relationship between Senator Morgan Komichi and the MDC has continued to deteriorate since the MDC extraordinary congress of 2021. Pro Mwonzora MDC activists heckled Komichi at his presser, accusing him of sour grapes after he allegedly failed to be nominated by all ten provinces for a position at the party’s congress held late last year in Harare.
