The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of E creator founder Zhao Jiatong in connection with a case of duping members of the public of over one million United States Dollar, through the E creator ponzi scheme.
In a statement, the police implored members of the public who were defrauded by the 39 year old Chinese national through E creator to report to the nearest police station.
The police also advised members of the public to be cautious and avoid investing their money in ponzi schemes.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Zhao Jiatong in connection with a case of fraud in which unsuspecting members of the public were duped through the E creator ponzi scheme.
“ZRP is inviting members of the public who might have been duped through E creator to report at any nearest police station.
“We continue to implore to members of the public to exercise due diligence before making any payments to ponzi or pyramid schemes purportedly offering quick investment returns,” reads the statement.
E-Creator was a firm that promised investors quick money by sharing positive reviews on e-commerce sites worldwide. Investors were required to deposit money via the Ecocash platforms then wait for returns to be deposited into their accounts.
This is not the first time Zimbabweans have fallen prey to ponzi schemes. In the past there was one called MMM, to which many lost money.
