ZEC Hates Me-Mwonzora

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) President, Douglas Mwonzora claims that his challenge of the Delimitation report has made the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to hate and punish his party.

Mwonzora is challenging the decision by the electoral mother body to decline MDC House Of Assembly candidates’ nominations.

The opposition leader claims that ZEC refused to accept centralised bank transfers for his party’s prospective candidates. The MDC says it made a payment for it’s 87 parliamentary hopefuls directly from the party’s bank account but alleges that the electoral body declined the payment, saying each candidate ought to pay individually.

The MDC leader accuses ZEC of punishing him for his Constitutional Court challenge of it’s delimitation report so as to allegedly set an example for others who might want to do the same thing in future.

Addressing the media outside the High Court in Harare today, the MDC leader said the punishment is depriving his candidates of crucial campaign time.

“Our candidates are going to get less than thirty days to campaign, but we shall not give up because we know that we are being punished because we challenged ZEC in the delimitation report,” said Mwonzora.

He added that he was not going to give up despite “the punishment.”

“We are going to challenge them, ZEC and ZANU PF who are trying to affect our campaign,” said Mwonzora.

The Harare lawyer also expressed optimism of winning the case.

“Mrs Valerio had the same case and she won, l know we are going to win,” he said.

Different political parties have this year taken ZEC to court over allegations of irregularities in the nomination process.
