Police Investigate Zec Break-In

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating an alleged break-in that took place at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices in Harare on Sunday night.

This comes after reports emerged alleging a break in at the Electoral body’s Mahachi Quantum Offices in the Capital. The suspected robbers are alleged to have got away with 3 laptops belonging to Chief Elections Officer, Utlouile Silaigwana and his Secretary Isabel Mariwowo.

Rodney Kiwa, the Deputy Chairperson of  the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec)  confirmed the incident, declining to comment further as the matter was now under Police investigations.

Kiwa also declined to comment on whether the stolen laptops contained critical data.

The break in allegations at the heavily guarded offices add to the controversy surrounding the run up to the August 23 2023 harmonized elections.
