The Zimbabwe Republic Police {ZRP} has arrested a 33 year old man from Churu farm in Harare, who is accused of raping his 13 year old niece.
According to a report made to the police, the complainant, Tilder Kunyasha (13) was left in the custody of his uncle Lebias Chimene (33) whilst her parents had gone to a funeral on July 18.
On July 19, Chimene reportedly went to the complainant’s room and lifted her to his room, where he raped her once without protection before telling Tilder to keep the incident a secret.
Later that day Tilder told her aunt, Ruth Gombera about the sexual abuse and Ruth accompanied the complainant to the police leading to Chimene’s arrest.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provincial spokesperson for Harare province, Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest.
“Accused person is uncle to the complainant. On 18 July 2023 the complainant was left in the custody of the accused person whilst her parents had gone to attend a funeral. On 19 July 2023 around 0200 hours the accused person went to the complainant’s room, lifted the complainant and took her to his bedroom where he placed the complainant on the bed.
“The accused person removed the complainant’s pant and raped her once without protection. After the act, the accused person warned the complainant not to tell anyone. On the same day at around 0700 hours the complainant told her aunt Ruth GOMBERA NR 11-091357X71 aged 25 of Churu Farm about the abuse.
“Ruth GOMBERA accompanied the complainant to ZRP Glenview and filed a report on the 19th day of July 2023 at around 1200 hours. ZRP Glenview attended the scene and arrested the accused person. The accused person was detained on ZRP Glenview,” said Chakanza.
