Chitungwiza Man Loses US$12 000 To Robbers

A Chitungwiza man was allegedly robbed of US$12 000 by four unknown assailants.

He also lost a Tecno Spark 9 cellphone during the alleged robbery.

According to a report made to the police, Caston Sururu (44) boarded a Honda fit at Huruyadzo shopping center in Chitungwiza, intending to travel to the Harare CBD.

The report says Saruru was carrying a total of US$22 222, which was intended for maize and soya bean purchases for his company, African Hallgrain based in Waterfalls.

During the journey, the Honda Fit driver allegedly drove to Shingai Primary School main gate and pulled off the road. One of the assailants then allegedly ordered Saruru to surrender all his valuables. The alleged robbers then reportedly drove to Zengeza 2 shopping centre where they dumped Sururu.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provincial spokesperson for Harare Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident.

“On 18 July 2023 around 0430 hours, Caston SURURU boarded a Honda Fit vehicle, registration number not captured, at Huruyadzo Shopping Centre intending to proceed to Harare Central Business District. He was carrying cash amounting to US$12 222-00 and wanted to go to Mhangura to buy maize and soybeans for his company, African Hallgrain (Pvt) Ltd located in Waterfalls, Harare.

“In the vehicle were one (1) female and three (3) unknown males. The driver drove along Chaminuka Road. On approaching Giant Service Station the driver turned into Hombarume Road. He drove to Shingai Primary School main gate and pulled off the road. One of the accused persons ordered the complainant to surrender all his valuables.

“The accused person forcibly took complainant’s small bag containing cash US$12 222-00 and a Tecno Spark 9 cellphone. They drove to Zengeza 2 ground behind Makombe Supermarket where they dumped the complainant and drove away,” said Chakanza.
