A Highfield man has been arrested on allegations of raping his niece.
The man allegedly raped the juvenile on several occasions, each time threatening to chase out of the house if she reported the alleged abuse to anyone.
The abuse is reported in the docket to have taken place on several occasions until the victim opened up to her teacher at school.
The teacher is then reported to have advised the juvenile to make an anonymous tipoff to the police.
The tipoff eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to a police report seen by this publication, the juvenile reported the abuse to her class teacher on 7th of July 2023.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said the man has been arrested and is assisting Police with investigations.
“Accused person is uncle to the complainant. On an unknown date and in November 2022 around midday, the accused went to the kitchen where the complainant was and fondled her buttocks and threatened her that if she divulge the abuse to her aunt, he will chase her from the house.
“On another unknown date in November 2022 the accused person fondled the complainant’s breast and threatened the same thing. During the last week of November 2022 the accused entered into complainant’s bedroom door whilst she was naked changing clothes.
“He then advanced towards her dropping his trousers to the ankle, pushed her to the bed, removed her pant and had protected sexual intercourse with her once and without consent. The accused on several occasions kept on abusing the complainant until the 07th of July 2023 when she reported the abuse to her class teacher (name withheld) a female adult aged 42 of Old Highfield Harare, who advised her to write a tip off letter to ZRP Southerton.
“Tip off was attended and the complainant was escorted to Family Support Clinic for medical examinations and a medical report was collected. A formal report was made on ZRP Southerton. Accused was arrested and was detained at ZRP Southerton,” reads the docket.
