Three MDC youths have reportedly defected to the ruling Zanu PF party, abandoning the beleaguered as the Mwonzora led opposition party continues to lose cadres ahead of the August 23 general elections.
Silenkosi Moyo, Carol Moyo and Nqobile Malikho are former MDC youth leaders, who reportedly joined former party Spokesperson Witness Dube, who recently defected to Zanu PF, citing poor leadership within the opposition party.
The three former youth leaders were paraded at a Zanu Pf rally in Cowdray Park on Wednesday, which was addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Addressing supporters at the launch of the party manifesto in Harare recently, MDC president Douglas Mwonzora accused the ruling Zanu PF of setting up a desk ostensibly aimed at destroying his party.
“As MDC, we know that Zanu Pf has created a desk at its headquarters led by Blessing Chebundo in the 4TH floor to lure our MDC members. They want to destroy our party, but we have sad news for Zanu Pf, you will never destroy the MDC. We have bad news for Mnangagwa, you will never decimate us. You tried under Mugabe and you’re trying now, but that is a very poor try because the integrity of the MDC remains,” he said.
Witness Dube, the former MDC T Spokesperson who recently defected to Zanu PF said it was justifiable for the defectors to jump ship as they were “seeking good leadership.”
“It is the most responsible thing to do, having mobilized and groomed these young people to be leaders, to guide them accordingly so that they do note waste their potential following leaders with no vision for this country except carving political careers for themselves,” he said.
