
An off duty Police officer was allegedly attacked by a four gang, losing money and sustaining injuries in the process.
According to a report made to the police, Luckson Makwara was on his way home after disembarking from a lift at Chinhamo service station along the Harare-Chitungwiza highway when four unknown assailants allegedly attacked him from behind, demanding cash and his belongings.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
“On 19 July 2023 around 2000 hours, the complainant was going home from town in civilian attire when he disembarked at Chinhamo Service station. Complainant walked along a dust road leading to Chinhamo compound along the way he was approached from behind by four unknown male adults who held him and demanded cash and belongings.
“Complainant resisted and one of the accused persons assaulted him using an iron bar on the right knee and an empty bottle on the face and fell on the ground. They searched the complainant’s pockets and took US $50 -00.
“The complainant was rescued by two unknown male adults who challenged the accused persons and they fled into the darkness with complainant’s cash. The two good Samaritans took the complainant to his place of residence and went away.
“On the 20th day of July 2023, complainant made a report at ZRP Waterfalls. He sustained knee injuries, and minor cuts on the face and was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment. Scene was attended, nothing was recovered and no arrests we made. Investigations are in progress,” reads the docket.
