In a shocking incident that has left University of Zimbabwe students shocked and scared, an unidentified man allegedly raped and robbed a 23 year old female student from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) in Mt Pleasant.
According to a police report seen by this publication, the student allegedly heard a sound of a smashed window on July 20, at her home of residence in Mt Pleasant.
Its reported that when she woke up, she saw a male adult entering her room.
Upon gaining entry, the man allegedly ordered her to be silent and sleep on the floor before reportedly taking an HP laptop, Huawei Y9 cellphone and USD10 that was on the bed of the complainant.
The man then allegedly ordered her to follow to the backyard of the house, where he allegedly raped her once without protection.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“On 20 July 2023 and around 0430 hours, the complainant heard a sound of a smashed window and she woke up and saw a male adult entering her room through the window. She screamed and the accused person ordered her to remain silent.
“Accused then ordered the complainant to sleep on the floor and went on to search for valuables in the complainant’s room. Accused took HP Pro laptop that was on the chair and complainant’s Huawei Y9 cellphone and US$10-00 that was on the bed, and ordered complainant to follow him. They went to the backyard and accused used complainant’s cellphone to call his colleagues, and informed them to meet at a pond at an unknown place.
“Accused then ordered complainant to lie down on the ground and remove her trousers. Complainant refused to comply, and the accused threatened to call his colleagues, who would come and take turns to rape her. Complainant was left with no option, and she removed her trousers half down to the knees. The accused person then forcibly removed complainant’s pant and raped her once without protection, and went away. Total value stolen is US$590-00. ZRP Marlborough attended the scene, and arrests or recoveries were made,” reads the docket.
