Zimdancehall Music Producer DJ Symplex Embroiled In Car Theft Scandal

A Waterfalls based Zimdancehall music producer popularly known as DJ SIMPLEX  and an accomplice are in hot soup after allegedly duping a Harare man of  his car worth US$4 800.

According to a police report seen by this publication, DJ SIMPLEX and his alleged accomplice Cosmas Mukucha allegedly engaged one Imbayago Madzvara using an online platform in order to facilitate the sale of his black HONDA FIT.

Its alleged that DJ Symplex and his Cosmas Mukucha lured Madzvara to Zindoga Business centre in Waterfalls where they told him that they had found a buyer for his vehicle and had come to finish off the sale.

Its alleged that the said buyer told Madzvara that he had left the money at his house and would go with DJ Symplex and Mukucha to collect it. Upon their return the suspects are reported to have told Madzvara that the said buyer had stolen his car and disappeared.

Madzvara then proceeded to Waterfalls Police Station to report the theft.

The duo was arrested at Waterfalls Police Station under case number RRB 5618480 and are assisting authorities with investigations.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare Province confirmed the incident.

“The two suspects, who are friends and are unregistered car sale agents advertising vehicles online and the second suspect is also a musician popularly known as DJ SIMPLEX . The complainant and the two suspects knew each other since February 2023.”

“During the month of February 2023 the complainant engaged the first suspect online to facilitate the sale of his vehicle a black HONDA FIT vehicle registration number AFM 3253 CHASIS number GE81514507 ENGINE NUMBER not known for a reward of US $100. On the 01st day of August 2023 at around 1500 hours the first suspect phoned the complainant in a suspected false pretence that he got a buyer who was interested in buying his motor vehicle.”

“The first suspect together with the second suspect met the complainant at Zindoga Business Centre in company of one male adult no further particulars known who was said to be the purported buyer. A road test drive was done by the buyer and was satisfied with the vehicle condition. The buyer was charged US $4800 by the complainant.”

“The buyer then indicated to the complainant that he had left the cash at his residence in Prospect, Waterfalls and the complainant gave the two suspects his vehicle so that they would accompany the buyer and collect the cash. Hours later the two suspects returned to the complainant without the vehicle or cash US $4800. The two suspects also informed the complainant that the vehicle had been stolen by the buyer on unclear circumstances.”

“The complainant proceeded to ZRP Waterfalls and filed a report. ZRP Waterfalls attended the scene with CID Braeside leading to the arrest of the two suspects. Total value of the stolen motor vehicle is US $4800-00 and nothing was recovered. Investigations are underway,” reads the docket.
