A Harare man from Kuwadzana suburb has been arrested on allegations of raping a 14 year school girl whom he was contracted to transport to and from school.
Its reported that the man (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor) has “consensual” intercourse with the girl on several occasions in his car.
According to a police report dated July 25, the alleged rapist picked up the minor from Glenlorne in order to take her to school. It is alleged that while driving on carrick creak, he parked his vehicle on the side of the road and started kissing the minor before he adjusted the seat, lifted her skirt and had protected intercourse without her consent.
The matter came to light after the minor’s father reportedly noticed some behavioural changes in her.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare Provincial spokesperson, Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations were in progress.
“The complainant only knows the accused person as their school run driver. Sometime in June 2023 during the morning, the accused person was using a Honda fit registration numbers not held, for school run from Glenlorne to Hatcliffe.
“On day in question the complainant boarded the accused person’s vehicle along Carrick Creach Borrowdale on her way to school. The accused person was alone in the vehicle and complainant sat on the front passenger seat.
” The accused person then parked the car along that road and started kissing the complainant. Same adjusted the car seat where the complainant was sitting and lifted her skirt, removed her pant and had protected sex with the complainant once without her consent.
“After the act, the complainant went to school as normal. The two continued to have consensual sexual intercourse in the car on several occasions. On 25 July 2023, the complainant disclosed the matter to her father Gracious Mapuranga after the father had noticed some behavioural changes on the complainant.
“On 31 July 2023 the complainant made a report at ZRP Borrowdale. Investigations established that the first time the accused person had sexual intercourse with the complainant, she did not consent to the act hence the charge of rape sufficed.
“The accused person was arrested and detained on DB 754/23. The complainant was escorted to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for medical examination. The case will be taken to court on the 2 August 2023 for trial,” reads the police repott.
