The Secretary General for War Veterans Association of Zimbabwe, Douglas Mahiya has mockingly urged the Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa to join the ruling party ZANU PF.
Mahiya made the statement at a Post elections press briefing at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare yesterday.
This came after Chamisa lost to the President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa in the highly contested August 23 polls which were described by both regional and international observers as flawed.
He said the ruling party has the right to rule this country because of what it did during the liberation war, adding that Chamisa should join the party for development purposes.
“I have no words for him except to say he should join ZANU PF,” said Mahiya. “This is good for the development of our country and the development of our people.”
Mahiya also denounced the preliminary report by regional and international observers who described the election as falling short of free and fair. He said ZEC was the only institution with the rights of nullifying the credibility of the plebiscite.
“We are a sovereign state and ZEC as the referee of the election is the one with powers of doing that not observers,” he said.
He also described the head of SADC Election Observer Mission Nevers Mumba as a man who “failed God and is on the verge of failing man.”
“This Mumba guy failed to lead a big congregation. So he failed God just like the devil and now wants to fail men,” he said.
