Zimbabwean News You Can Trust
War Veterans Secretary General Douglas Mahiya has attacked the head of the SADC observer mission, Dr. Nevers Mumba saying he had failed to run a church and therefore was in no position to save Zimbabwe.
Mahiya’s attack on the former Zambian Vice President comes after Mumba gave the SADC Observer mission’s preliminary report which said some aspects of the just ended elections were not free and fair and did not meet the regional body’s guidelines on holding credible elections.
Addressing journalists at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare yesterday, Mahiya said Dr. Nevers Mumba failed to run a church, hence it was void for him to look after Zimbabwe.
He added that observers were not supposed to give recommendations against the country’s constitution and sovereignty.
“When you are an observer, you have not taken that country’s constitution and sovereignty to dictate to them as you think. An observer is an observer, you only see what is happening. Any observer, like the Mumba guy, failed God. He is a pastor. He had a big congregation, which he failed to pastor.
“I don’t think in the wisdom of regional and international leadership they can be worried about Mumba, who failed to look after a church, and now he thinks he can look after Zimbabwe. He can’t,” he said.
Mahiya also claimed that Zanu PF “has a right to rule Zimbabwe” because of its liberation war history.
“Remember Zanu PF has a right to rule this country by virtue of the path it chose to gain independence kuti titonge tine hama dzakafa. Tine vanhu vakarara ku Zambia. Tine vanhu vakarara in the countryside kuti tisvike pakuzvitonga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the leader of those people,” said Mahiya.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of Zanu Pf as the winner of the Presidential election with 52.6 percent, while his main rival Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa got 44 percent.
Chamisa is disputing the outcome, saying it was rigged in the incumbent’s favor.
