Zimbabwean News You Can Trust
Zanu PF Head of Research, Strategy and Liason Dr. Todson Gomo has told CCC leader Nelson Chamisa to join the ruling party, because he has nothing tangible to offer the people of Zimbabwe.
Addressing journalists at the Zanu PF Headquarters in Harare yesterday, Dr. Gomo said Chamisa should join the revolutionary party, and be “baptized” by going through Herbert Chitepo’s school of ideology.
Asked if there were any prospects for Zanu Pf to work with the opposition CCC, Dr. Gomo said there was no room for that.
“Why would we work with someone who has got a different ideology? Why do we work with somebody, who gets instructions from foreign countries? Why would we work with somebody who is saying that as soon as I am in office, I will bring all the white people to come here and do things for you?
“Why would we work with someone who has an ideology which is not very unclear? We have to ensure he reveals clearly what he stands for. If we are going to invite Chamisa, he needs to be baptized into Zanu PF. Chamisa should join Zanu PF because he has nothing to offer, and when he comes, we take him through Chitepo’s school of ideology so that he is not a danger to society,” said Gomo.
Dr. Gomo also distanced Zanu PF from allegations that it had an influence on the operations of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) during the just ended August poll. He described the CCC’s demand for fresh elections as “sheer madness”.
“There are issues that have been raised that Zanu PF rigs elections. The issues of alleged improprieties and suggestions that Zanu PF is an expert at rigging elections; we don’t rig elections, but we vote our leaders, our MPs and local authorities into office.
“I think that’s sheer madness. The part that you’re talking about of fresh elections will never be held in this country. I am not the president of this country, but I will tell you fresh elections will never take place. The question of rejection, it’s their right, you can’t tell them not to reject but the wish that if they reject we should go back to the polls will never happen,” said Gomo.
ZEC declared President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa the winner of the presidential election with 52.6 percent, while his main rival Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa got 44 percent.
Currently, Chamisa is disputing the outcome, saying it was rigged in the incumbent’s favor and has pledged to fight for new polls.
