Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to fulfill the promises he made during the election campaign period, insisting he would develop rural areas and transform the livelihoods of all Zimbabweans in his last term of office.

Mnangagwa made these remarks in Harare on Monday at his inauguration ceremony, where he was sworn in to serve the second and final term of his tenure as the President of Zimbabwe.

Addressing scores of supporters that gathered at the National Sports Stadium for his inauguration, the Zimbabwean strongman said his developmental program would be inclusive across the country.

“My new government will deliver on the promises we have made to you. The transformation of the living standards of our people, especially those in rural communities, will be accelerated, while the concerns of those in urban areas will not be neglected.

“Responsive policies, projects and programs, which began during the first term of my Presidency, are on course to lift many more people out of poverty and into prosperity,” he said.

More so, the Zanu PF first Secretary also said his government would complete the construction of the Gwayi- shangani and Kunzvi dams. He added that his administration will also upgrade Hwange units one to unit six and other power generation stations.

“Water is life and a solution not only to sustainable food security and sovereignty, but also for the water and sanitation needs of our fast growing urban populations. Gwayi- Shangani and Kunzvi dams, which are set to meet the needs of Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, are scheduled to be
completed soon.

“During the last five years, my Administration delivered energy self- sufficiency to our country. Courtesy of our comprehensive, strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, Hwange unit 7 and unit 8 are now on stream.

“We will now move on to upgrade Hwange Unit 1 to Unit 6, among other national strategic power generation stations,” said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa’s inauguration was graced by three heads of State from the SADC region namely South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, DRC’s Felix Tshisekedi and Felipe Nyusi of Mozambique. The kingdom of Eswatini sent Prime Minister Cleopas Dhlamini, who represented King Mswati III.

Also present were former First Lady Grace Mugabe and her daughter Bona. Flamboyant prosperity gospel preachers Emmanuel Makandiwa, Walter Magay, Uebert Angel also graced the event.

Former Vice Presidents Joyce Mujuru and Phelekezeal Mphoko were also present.

However, most SADC Heads of State snubbed the event, with leaders of Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, Tanzania, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Comoros failing to attend the ceremony, instead sending representatives.
