In a heart wrenching and shocking incident that took pace in Chitungwiza, three young men allegedly raped a 27 year old woman in front of her children.
The two allegedly broke into the house and started assaulting the victim’s husband fearing for his life, the man managed to escape from the house and disappeared into the night, leaving his wife and children at the mercy of the assailants.
After the man’s escape the invaders turned to the woman and took turns to rape her while her children watched.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
” Accused persons and the complainants are neighbours. On 7 September 2023 around 2200 hours, complainant 1 and his husband complainant 2 were asleep in their two roomed cabin house together with their children Ronald Karima male aged 9 years, Romeo Karima male aged four years, Ropafadzo Mutarika female aged five years and Nomatter Mutarika female aged two years.
“The accused person forced open the cabin door by kicking it and gained entry. They demanded cash from complainant 2 whilst assaulting him with booted feet and open hands several times all over the body.
“Complainant 2 managed to escape an left complainant 1 and the kids in the house. Accused 2,3 and the other one who is unknown then took turns to rape complainant 1 twice each in the presence of her children whilst accused 1 was holding a torch for lightning.
“After raping complainant one, the accused persons stole a small Itel cellphone and a Huawei Honor cellphone and went away. Complainant 1 went to seek assistance from Munorweyi Sibanda male aged 52 years contactable on 0773 610 035 and Christopher Mutero NR 63-761779f 13 male aged 43years contactable on 0773 577 570 of Nyatsime, Nhano area who are members of Nyatsime neighbourhood watch committee.
“The duo reacted swiftly and managed to to arrest accused 1 at his place of residence and escorted him to the police. The team proceeded to accused three and accused four’s house but they were not located.
” A small Itel cellphone valued at US $8 was recovered from their house. Two used condoms were also recovered at the scene, one outside the cabin house and another one on the blankets where complainant was sleeping.
“Complainant was escorted to Chitungwiza Hospital for medical examination. Complainant two did not sustain any injuries. Accused person one and two are detained at ZRP Chitungwiza on DB2249/23 and 2250/23 respectively. Total value stolen is US$108-00 and US$8-00 was recovered. Investigations are in progress ZRP Chitungwiza CR 144/10/23 refers,” reads the docket.
