A local Taxi driver was allegedly recently robbed of his car at knife point by three unknown assailants.
He also lost his national identity card, driver’s licence and cash amounting to US$40-00 to the suspects, who are still at large.
According to a report made to the police, Kudakwashe Goronga was allegedly approached three unknown male adults who hired him for a trip to Zengeza 3 in Chitungwiza.
Goronga is said to have then drove to Chitungwiza and upon reaching corner Hombarume Road and Rufaro Road, Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza, one of the suspects who was occupying the front passenger seat is alleged to have suddenly pulled the handbrake, resulting in car screeching to a halt.
One of the suspects who was seated in the back seat is alleged to have produced an Okapi knife and pointed it at Goronga’s ribs while the third suspect is alleged to have disembarked and then opened the driver’s door, ordering the victim to disembark.
The suspects then drove away leaving Goronga at the scene.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
“On 16 September 2023 at around 1600 hours, Kudakwashe Goronga, who is a pirate taxi driver, was seated in his Toyota Allex motor vehicle, silver in colour registration number ADG 4768 at Ok Julius Nyerere Way, Harare.
“He was approached by three unknown male adults who hired him to Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza. Kudakwashe GORONGA drove to Chitungwiza and upon reaching corner Hombarume Road and Rufaro Road, Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza, one of the accused persons who was occupying the front passenger seat suddenly pulled the handbrake and the motor vehicle stopped.
“The other accused person who was sitting on the back produced an okapi knife and pointed it at the complainant’s ribs. The other accused person disembarked from the motor vehicle, forced the complainant out and he took control of the motor vehicle. The accused person drove away along Rufaro Road, leaving the complainant at the scene.
“A report was made at ZRP St Mary’s and the scene was attended by a team led by Inspector Tsopotsa. In the motor vehicle was the complainant’s wallet containing a national identity card a driver’s licence and cash amounting to US$40-00.
“The accused persons were not located. The total value stolen is US$4 540-00 and nothing was recovered. CID VTS was advised through DC Mudawese,” reads the docket
