Waterfalls Man Robbed & Assaulted After Boarding A Pirate Taxi

A Waterfalls man is counting his losses after he was allegedly robbed and assaulted by a gang of criminals whose vehicle he had boarded with the intention of going into town.

According to a police report, Thabiso Dube boarded a white Toyota Probox at an area known as “Masteps” along New Marlvern rd in Waterfalls. A few minutes after boarding, the suspects allegedly informed Dube that he had boarded a car belonging to criminals.

It’s alleged that the suspects then blind folded Dube and started searching him, taking the US$304 that he had in his pocket as well as his clothes and other particulars. After the robbery the suspects alleged struck Dube with an iron bar in the head. They also allegedly punched him with fists before dropping him off and driving away into the night.

Dube sustained a deep cut on the head and was referred to Sally Mugabe hospital for treatment after filing a report at Waterfalls Police Station.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

“On the 24 September 2023 at around 2215 hours, the complainant boarded a white Toyota Probox, registration number not captured at Masteps along NEW Marlven road Waterfalls, Harare intending to go to Harare Central Business District.

“Along the way, the accused persons changed subject informed the complainant that he had boarded the motor vehicle which belongs to the criminals. The accused persons subsequently blind folded the complainant with a cloth and searched his pockets.

“They took complainant’s cash US$304-00, various clothes and other particulars. One of the accused persons struck the complainant on the head with an iron object and with open hands and fists. They then threw the complainant out of their motor vehicle.

“Total value stolen is US$714-00. The complainant proceeded to ZRP Waterfalls and filed a report. The complainant sustained a cut on the head and was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment. Scene was attended, no arrests or recoveries were made. Investigations are underway on ZRP Waterfalls,” reads the docket.
