Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema will today convene a summit to deliberate on security issues in DRC and Election Report by the SADC Election Observer Mission on Zimbabwe’s August 23 disputed polls.
The virtual meeting which will be attended by different head of States within the bloc will be Chaired by President Hichilema who is the Chairperson of SADC Organ on Politics and Defense.
Among the attendees are President Samia Siluhu Hassan of Tanzania, Gottfried Geingob of Namibia and President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Repulic Of Congo (DRC).
According to the press statement by the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the meeting is aimed at bringing stability within the bloc.
“The summit will deliberate on security situation in Eastern DRC, updates of the pledged critical capabilities for SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC) and progress made towards deployment in the DRC,” said the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the statement.
The Ministry also said the summit is aimed at discussing the report by Dr Nevers Mumba who was the Head of SADC Election Observer Mission on the August 23 Zimbabwe plebiscite.
According to the preliminary report, Dr Mumba said the election failed to meet both regional and international standards.
“The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) report on the harmonised elections in the Republic of Zimbabwe as well as other impending elections in the SADC region will also be discussed at the summit.”
