Epworth Man Nabbed For Armed Robbery

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 23 year old man from Epworth for allegedly robbing a Masasa man USD200 at gun point.

The robbery allegedly took place at the intersection of Chiremba Road and Munyuki Drive in Epworth.

According to the Police report, the victim, who was at Chiremba Shopping Centre got into his vehicle intending to go home but was blocked by the suspect, Elvis Mugoni, who parked his honda fit vehicle in front of the victim’s to prevent him from leaving the parking lot.

The victim however found a way to leave and drove off along Chiremba rd headed for Epworth. But when he made a stop at the Chiremba rd and Munyuki Dr junction, Mugoni allegedly pulled up in front of him and blocked his car.

Mugoni then allegedly disembarked from his vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money as well as other valuables. The victim allegedly surrendered US$200 to him, fearing for his life.

After the alleged offence, Mugoni went to his car and sped off whilst the victim went into Msasa Park and told his story to four private security guards who then teamed up with him and went to search for Mugoni.

The victim and the private security team then went to Chiremba Shopping Centre where they captured Mugoni and took him to Hatfield police station, where they filed a report.

ZRP Harare provincial spokesperson, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said the police recovered a pistol from the suspect.

“On 28 September 2023 around 0115 hours, the complainant was at Chiremba Shopping Centre, Epworth, and he got into his motor vehicle a Red Honda Fit intending to go home but he was blocked by a Navy Blue Honda Fit. Complainant later managed to exit the parking and drove away. While at the corner of Chiremba Road and Munyuki Drive, the accused person overtook him and blocked his motor vehicle.

“He disembarked from his vehicle and produced an unidentified Pistol. He then pointed it on the complainant’s forehead demanding his valuables and he was given USD200. The accused person drove away towards Chiremba Shopping , while the complainant proceeded to Msasa Park  and teamed up with four male private security guards from Msasa Park. They proceeded to Chiremba Shopping Centre and they managed to apprehend the accused person. They took him to ZRP Hatfield leaving his vehicle. A report was made at ZRP Hatfield,” said Chakanza.
