President Emmerson Mnangagwa has proclaimed the 7th of November as the date for the Normination Court and December 9 as the day for the by-elections to replace 15 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmakers who were controversially recalled from Parliament.
The swift move comes after a Sengezo Tshabangu, claiming to be the interim Secretary General of the Nelson Chamisa led CCC.
Tshabangu wrote to Parliament on the 3rd of October, recalling 15 CCC Members of Parliament mostly from Bulawayo, alleging that they had ceased to be members of the main opposition party which won a total of 103 seat of parliament at the August 23 General Elections.
The self proclaimed CCC interim Secretary General also recalled 17 councilors, also alleging that they had ceased to be members of the opposition party.
Recently, Tafadzwa Manyika, claiming to be the interim Zanu PF Secretary General, also wrote to the Speaker of Parliament recalling 70 elected Zanu PF Members of Parliament, but the Speaker of Parliament Advocate acob Mudenda has todate not effected the recalls.
Responding to Mnangagwa’s proclamation on X (formerly known as Twitter), CCC Deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba said the move is calculated to decimate the main opposition party.
He said, “The proclamation for by elections for disputed and fake vacancies created by Zanu pf through proxies has all but shown Mnagangwa’s hand and intention to destroy and decimate the authentic opposition after he was defeated in the just-ended election. The Citizens Movement will not accept this!
The constituencies which will hold by-elections include Beitbridge west, Binga North, Bulawayo South, Cowdray Park, Lobengula Magwegwe, Lupane East, Mabvuku Tafara, Mpopoma-Mzilikazi and Nketa.
