Armed Robbers Break Into Epworth House & Steal USD900

An Epworth woman was left counting her loses after thieves allegedly broke into her house and stole  US$880.

According to a report made to the police, Shamiso Chisuro, was asleep with her daughter Sekai Kapfava when they heard a violent knock at the door.

When she went to attend to the knock, she was met by three unidentified assailants who allegedly claimed to be police officers. The suspects allegedly ordered them to open the door, claiming that they wanted to search for something in the house.

Chisuro allegedly refused to comply, leading to the suspects firing a gun shot on the bedroom window before breaking the screen door to gain entry into the house.

The assailants destroyed the door with an unknown object before one of them entered into the house through the gap of the broken door and unlocked the door from inside using the keys which were inserted on the key hole,

His two accomplices them entered the house.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

“On 29 October 2023 and at around 0230 hours, the complainant and her daughter Sekai KAPFAVA aged 24 years, were sleeping in their two roomed house with the door and the screen door locked.

“They heard a violent knock at the door and the three unknown accused persons who claimed to be police officers ordered them to open the door because they wanted to search for something in the house but the complainant refused. The accused persons struck the dining room window with an unknown object and the glasses broke.

“They fired a gun shot on the bedroom window and went on to break the screen door. The accused persons destroyed the door with an unknown object and one of the accused entered into the house through the gap of the broken door and he unlocked the door from inside using the keys which were inserted on the key hole, paving way for the other two accused persons to enter.

“They assaulted the complainant and her daughter with open hands on their faces before ordering them to lie down and cover their faces with blankets. The complainant screamed for help but no one came to their rescue. The three accused persons who were covering their faces with masks started to search the house and they stole US$880.00 which was hidden in a heap of packed blankets.

“They went on to interview the complainant whether she knew a business man by the name Hwesa who lives in their area and she professed ignorance. The three accused persons vanished from the scene and the complainant alerted the police at around 0600 hours.

“Scene was attended by ZRP Epworth. Four live rounds and two spent cartridges written ‘Rem’ were picked at the door. C.ID Homicide was advised to attend the scene and the matter is being investigated under ZRP Sunway city Post, said Chakanza.”
