In another twist to the real life political drama within the main opposition CCC party, the self styled Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu has struck yet again, this time taking aim at the Political parties finance money.
In a letter seen by this publication, the Bulawayo based Tshabangu wrote to the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary affairs requesting for the main opposition’s allocation of the funds.
“I am writing in terms of section 3(1) as read with section 3(3) of the Political Parties (Finance) Act (Chapter 2:11) to request the statutory allocation and disbursement of the funding that is due to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) political party, which participated in the 2023 harmonized general election, in which it garnered sufficient seats to qualify for the funds.
“Accordingly, we kindly request your good offices to process and disburse the allocation that is due to our party in terms of the Act.
“The details of our party’s bank account are as follows:
“Name of Account: Citizen Coalition for Change
“Account No:26903030011
“Bank: CBD
“Branch: Borrowdale
“Branch code: 09.
“We trust the foregoing is in order, and we stand ready to provide any further particulars that you may require,” reads the letter.
It is Signed by Sengezo Tshabangu and has the Ministry of Justice stamp to show that it was officially received.
Political parties that garner a minimum of 5% of the parliamentary seats are entitled to funding by the State under the Political Parties Finance Act in Zimbabwe.
The Southern African nation of 15m outlawed funding of political parties by outsiders, in a move that has been seen by analysts as targeted at financially crippling the opposition.
