As cases of robberies continue to soar, yet another case of armed robbery has been reported in the high density suburb Budiriro 4 Extension as six assailants ransack a house, getting away with US$21 000.
According to a report made to the police, Florence Makutuya allegedly heard a knock at her main gate and went out to respond to it. Its reported that an unspecified white motor vehicle was parked at her gate with six unknown male occupants inside.
As she approached the vehicle, one of the male occupants allegedly stepped out and produced a pistol. The suspect allegedly instructed Makutuya to remain silent while opening the gate and she obliged.
The suspect then allegedly force marched her into the house where he was joined by his accomplices.
The suspects grabbed Makutuya’s maid as well as her son, who were also in the house at the time of the incident, allegedly tying their hands and legs with shoe laces.
The suspects then allegedly ransacked the house and stole cellphones and a total amount of US$ 21 000 in cash.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
“On the 15th November 2023 at around 1500hours, complainant was at her residential place when she heard a knock at the main gate. Complainant got out of her house and saw a white unspecified motor vehicle parked at her gate with six unknown male occupants inside the vehicle.
“As the complainant approached the vehicle, one of the male occupants disembarked the motor vehicle and produced an unspecified pistol. The accused instructed the complainant to remain quite at the same time to open the gate and she complied.
“The accused person force marched the complainant into her house whereas the other accused persons disembarked from the vehicle and followed behind. Whilst inside the house, the accused persons saw complainant’s maid Panashe TAVENGWA aged 21 and her son Tauya MUTENJE NR Not Held aged 12 inside complainant’s bedroom.
“The accused persons grabbed the two, tied both hands and legs with shoe laces and were instructed to remain quite. The accused ransacked the room and stole cash US$ 21 000-00 which was inside her wardrobe, cellphones [Huawei, Samsung A12 and Samsung 33].The accused later left leaving complainant behind.
“A report was made at ZRP Budiriro on the 15th of November 2023 at around 2100hrs, scene was attended and accused not located. Total value stolen is US$21 300-00 and nothing was recovered, said Chakanza.”
