Armed Robbers Break Into House & Get Away With US$37K Worth Of Goods

A Harare family in Ushewokunze suburb got the shock of its life when it was wakened by noises in the house only to realise that a gang of 12 armed robbers had broken into its house in the middle of the night.

The family lost goods worth US$37 000 to the suspects who were allegedly armed to the teeth.

According to a report made to the police, the victims, Isaac Dzikamai and his wife Netsai Faith Dzikamai were allegedly awakened by a weird sound at the main door and upon going to investigate it, they discovered that twelve assailants had broke into their house.

The couple was allegedly assaulted by the assailants who were wearing face masks and allegedly armed with an unidentified pistol, hammers, knives, and iron bars.

The suspects allegedly demanded cash and valuables, before ransacking the house and stealing US$300 from the safe, 36 inch Keson television set, a decoder, various groceries, 03 Lenovo laptops, Del laptop, an HP laptop, Samsung A20 cellphone, Samsung A51 cellphone, Itel P36 cellphone, 4 laptop bags, 2 pairs of ladies shoes, microwave, Bluetooth speaker and 4 sets of car keys.

The suspects also allegedly got away in Dzikamai’s motor vehicle, a silver ISUZU Dmax vehicle registration number AER 8667.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to bring the culprits to book.

“Complainant 1 and complainant 2 are husband and wife.  On 07 November 2023 around 2359 hours, the complainants were awakened by a weird sound at the main door. The complainants discovered that twelve (12) unknown accused persons broke into the house.

“The accused persons were putting on face masks and armed with an unidentified pistol, hammers, knives and iron bars. They assaulted the two complainants and demanded cash and valuables. Complainant 1 was stabbed with an okapi on the right shoulder while complainant 2 was hit with a pistol butt on the forehead.

“The accused persons ransacked the house and stole cash US$300-00 from the safe, 36 inch Keson television set, a decoder, various groceries, 03 Lenovo laptops, Del laptop, an HP laptop, Samsung A20 cellphone, Samsung A51 cellphone, Itel P36 cellphone, 04 laptop bags, 02 pairs of ladies shoes, microwave, Bluetooth speaker and 4 sets of car keys.

“The accused drove away in complainants’ motor vehicle, a silver ISUZU Dmax vehicle registration number AER 8667. A report was made at ZRP Southlea Park.  Scene was attended but no arrests or recoveries were made. Total value stolen is US$37 000-00.

“Complainant 1 sustained a cut on the right shoulder while complainant 2 sustained a cut on the forehead. They were referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment. Investigations are in progress,” said Chakanza.
