Police After Hatfield Man For Raping His Girlfriend Several Times in 3 Months

A Harare man from Hatfield suburb is in hot soup as police are looking to arrest him over allegations that he  raped his 19 year old girlfriend.

Its alleged that on the day in question, the suspect invited his girlfriend to his house and she agreed.

According to a report made to the police, the victim and the suspect were in a love relationship, having started dating in July 2023. Its alleged that on the day in question, the suspect requested to see the victims’s private parts but she declined to oblige him, reportedly telling him that she was on her menstrual period.

Its alleged that the suspect forcibly removed her clothes and raped her once without protection.

Allegations are that on several occasions between August and October 2023, the suspect  sexually abused the victim. The two were still in a relationship when the alleged cases of abuse took place.

It was only on the 7th of November that the victim got courage to talk about the alleged abuse and went ahead to reveal it to her cousin (name withheld), who advised her to report the matter to the police.

Harare Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress to bring the culprit to justice.

“The complainant and the accused person are boyfriend and girlfriend.  On an unknown date but in July 2023, the complainant and the accused fell in love. Their love affair did not last long as the accused kept on demanding sex from the complainant which she said should be done after marriage.

“On an unknown date but in August 2023, the complainant and the accused reconciled and started dating again. On an unknown date in the same month, the accused invited the complainant to his place of residence and she agreed.

“Whilst seated on a bed the accused asked the complainant to see her private parts and she told him that she was on her menstrual period. The accused forcibly removed complainant’s clothes and raped her once without protection.

“On several occasions from August to October 2023, the accused person sexually abused the complainant. On 07 November 2023, the complainant got courage and revealed the abuse to her cousin Lorraine who advised her to report the matter to the police.

“A report was made at ZRP Hatfield on 07 November 2023 at around 1000 hours. The scene was attended and no arrest was made as the accused person was not located. The complainant was escorted to Mbare MSF for medical examination. Investigations are underway,” said Chakanza.
