Harare Man Loses USD23 216 In Belvedere

A Harare man is in distress after an as yet to be identified assailant allegedly broke into his car and stole USD22 766 in cash as well as electronic gadgets worth about USD450 at Marimba shopping center in Belvedere.

It is reported that on December 6, Ziwai Moses parked his Toyota Hilux at Marimba shops in the afternoon, locked all doors and windows, and then proceeded to a nearby shop.

According to a report made to the police, Moses returned in about 20 minutes and drove home, and only realized that his laptop, a black Lenovo think pad, skypix scanner and USD22 766 were missing.

After discovering this, the 52 year old drove back to Marimba shops and went directly to a CCTV in Food Lovers shop, where he discovered that a thief who had been driving a black vehicle had been stocking him and had broken into his parked vehicle and stole his possessions.

Moses immediately made a report with the police.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

He said, “The complainant parked his motor vehicle at Marimba shops, a white Toyota Hilux, registration number ABW 1345. He closed all windows, locked all doors, and proceeded to a nearby shop. The complainant returned to his car after about twenty minutes and drove off. Upon arriving home, the complainant discovered that one black leather laptop containing cash US$22 766-00, one black Lenovo Thinkpad valued at USD$350.00 and one Skypix scanner valued at USD$100 was missing.

“The complainant drove back to the place of occurrence. The CCTV from food lovers shop shows that a black motor vehicle with unknown make followed closely behind the complainant’s vehicle and parked nearby. The unknown accused person used an unknown object to break the rear right window and gained entry into the motor vehicle, stole the above mentioned property and went away unnoticed. The total value stolen is USD$23 216.00 and nothing was recovered.”
