Robbers Break Into House, Steal Car & Goods Worth USD$19K

A Harare woman is in deed distress after armed robbers broke into her house while she slept and stole an assortment of household goods as well as cellphones, before loading them in her Mazda BT50 twincab vehicle and driving away.

Its alleged that on the day in question, the complainant, who was asleep in her house, was awoken by sounds from outside as suspected armed robbers removed perimeter wall panels before breaking into the house.

Once inside, the suspects allegedly ordered the complainant to give them money, of which she told them she didn’t have. Its alleged that the suspects then left one of their accomplices guarding the victim whilst the others ransacked the house.

The suspects allegedly took USD$10 in cash, a 55 inch television set, a 6kva solar inverter, two solar batteries, two Samsung cell phones and various groceries. The suspects then allegedly took the keys to the victim’s Madza BT50 pick up truck and loaded the stolen goods before driving away.

The total value of goods stolen is USD$19000.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to bring the culprits to book.

“On 06 December 2023 around 0330 hours, the complainant was asleep in her bedroom when the accused persons used an unknown object to remove two precast wall panels and gained entry into the yard. They proceeded to the house and used a claw bar to break burglar bars and gained entry into the lounge.

“Complainant was awakened by the noise of the broken burglar bars. She went to the lounge to investigate what was happening and she met the accused persons, one of them holding a stone. The accused persons force marched the complainant to her bedroom demanding cash and the complainant told them that she had no money in the house.

“They left the complainant in her bedroom under guard whilst the other two ransacked the house and took cash US$10-00 which was in a purse, 55 inch television, 6kva solar inverter, two solar batteries, two Samsung cell phones and various groceries.

“After the act the accused persons took a bunch of house keys and car keys of a Mazda BT50, registration number ACM 2681 which was parked near the complainant’s bedroom door. The accused persons loaded the loot into complainant’s motor vehicle, opened the gate using a key which was on the bunch and drove away with the complainant’s motor vehicle.

“A report was made at ZRP Hatfield. The scene was attended and no arrest or recoveries were made. No arrests were made. CID VTS was advised through. Total value stolen is US$19 000-00,” reads the docket.
