A 28 year old man from Malborough has been arrested for allegedly robbing a lady of the night on December 31, in Greencroft.

According to a report made to the police, Walter Chipendo allegedly hired a sex worker at Greencroft shopping centre at a fee of USD10.

The two then allegedly went to an open space where they parked and became intimate inside the suspect’s car.

After the act, the lady of the night allegedly asked for payment, and Chipendo became evasive, reportedly asked her to accompany him to collect the cash at his home.

He allegedly claimed that his Nissan March car (number plate supplied), had developed a technical fault and thus they had to walk to his house to collect the money. Whilst on the way, Chipendo allegedly pulled an okapi knife, pointing it at the victim’s neck before demanding that she hand over all her possessions.

She allegedly handed over USD$25 to him.

Upon receiving the money, Chipendo allegedly took to his heels towards his car and drove off.

He was arrested a few days later at Greencroft shops.

ZRP spokesperson for  Harare province Luckmore Chakanza confirmed Chipendo’s arrest.

“On 31 December 2023 and around 2300 hours, the complainant, who is a commercial sex worker was hired by the accused person at Greencroft shops at a fee of US$10-00. Complainant got into the accused person’s silver Nissan March (registration number withheld) and they drove to a nearby open space where the car was parked. They had sexual intercourse and the complainant asked for her payment. The accused person stated that he wanted to go and get his money from his house.

“The accused person told the complainant to accompany him to his house on foot since his vehicle had developed a mechanical fault. Complainant agreed and after walking for a short distance, the accused person produced an Okapi knife and pointed it on the complainant’s neck, demanding she surrender all her valuables. Complainant surrendered US$25-00 to the accused who then fled into his motor vehicle and drove off. Total value stolen is US$25-00 and nothing was recovered. A report was made at ZRP Avondale,” said Chakanza.
