Chamisa Attacked By Disgrunted Supporters On X (Formerly Twitter)

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

The President of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa, received backlash from some of his supporters on X (formerly Twitter) after the opposition leader put forward proposals on how to turn around the economy.

Chamisa had shared a couple of proposals that he said if implemeted by government would transform Zimbabwe’s commatose economy and restore it to being the bread basket of Africa once more.

The youthful leader’s sentiments came at a time when CCC is struggling with internal fissures following the recent recalls of its party members by self-imposed secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.

Posting on his X account (formerly called Twitter) the main opposition leader put forward a slew of recommendations, which he said if met, would improve the country’s economy.

“Zimbabwe will soon reclaim its breadbasket status”. We will lead differently and excellently. We will feed the world. We will make and produce for everyone. Our nation shall be a gold nation- a wealthy nation. To achieve this; reforms, strong professional independent institutions, an accountable credible capable state, good governance, peace, unity in diversity, tolerance, healing and reconciliation upon being a God-honouring nation, are key ingredients,” said Chamisa.

However, responding to Chamisa’s post, an anonymous critic poured scorn on the charismatic CCC Leader, describing him as a “toothless bulldog”, telling the former Minister of ICT to address the internal squabbles within his party, before diving into how to address the country’s deep rooted economic problems.

“We are tired of just words without action . Faith without work is dead. People allowed you to go about your business without questions because they believed in you. Given your leadership in the past year, we have no choice but to start questioning what you are doing. What future do you honestly see given the crisis in your party? Your approach is confusing and your communication is vague.

“Do you want people to move on from the election disaster that happened 4 months ago? Do you intend to address the current crisis or as your tweet suggests, you are now looking into the future? You can’t have a record of starting new projects without addressing previous problems. When are you going to stop for once and address your problems as expected of a leader? There are bigger and complex problems in the political landscape. You make them worse by your lack of seriousness.

“As opposition leader, you should be providing a concrete alternative to the current dysfunction but you come across as if you have bigger problems than your opponents. You should have the upper hand but you are missing in action. Whose interests are you serving by missing in action? Do you have any idea how millions of people look to you to make things better,” bellowed the anonymous user.

However, some X users lept to Chamisa’s defence, advising his critics to stand up from their comfortable chairs and form their own political parties.

One said, “Vanoona sekuti mkomana haana plan endai mutange bato renyu rine plan or join varakashi …taneta netwumastatement twenyu twekumurmur nxaaaaaa…paneakusungirirwa here …tungamirai ka imi tione mbwende dzevanhu maZimba tirimagwara Chamisa this ..that ko isu.”
“I really hope mukomana will diligently respond to this, and to anyone who perceives this comment to be an attack, I guess you know the plan and you can help us to be on the same level.”
Meanwhile, the second batch of recalled CCC Member of Parliaments (MP) are preparing the upcoming by-election, the second one after the August 2023 polls, scheduled for February 3, after the opposition party’s self proclaimed Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu’s massive recalls last year.
