The Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr. Tamer Almassri has applauded Zanu Pf for its continuous support for the Palestinian people amidst the continued Israeli military operation in Gaza.

Addressing journalists at the Palestine embassy in Harare yesterday, at the World Day of prayer for Palestine which was attended by a number of Zimbabwean churches, Dr. Almassri thanked the Southern African nation for its unwavering support, adding that his people’s circumstances were in many ways similar to those of Zimbabwe, which he said has faced over two decades of economic sanctions imposed by the west.

He said, “Zimbabwe is not far from the great solidarity with Palestinian people and we highly appreciate all the positions that we got from the Zimbabwean government. The Zimbabwean leadership led by his excellence President Emmerson Mnangagwa in solidarity with Palestinian people and also the support that we got from our comrades in Zanu Pf and that we got from the people in Zimbabwe actually is not far from the oppressed people who suffer from sanctions until now, so our principles cannot be divided.

Dr. Almassri also highlighted some of the problems that Palestinians are facing in Gaza such as the destruction of infrastructure & health facilities as well as hunger, calling the Jewish nation’s military action “the Israeli Apartheid war”.

“They destroyed all Gaza infrastructure, for example 3 churches in Gaza Strip, all universities, more than 300 schools, the health sector and they also cut electricity and water. We actually have a hunger crisis in Gaza but this is not our official statement, it is from UNICEF,” he said.

The Palestinian Ambassador’s message to the ruling party comes after the ruling Zanu Pf recently applauded the South African government for its application at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague seeking the declaration of Israel’s military assault on Gaza an act of genocide.

More than 24 000 Palestinians are reported to have died, with 65 percent allegedly them being children and women whilst a total of 65 000 are reported to have been injured due to the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza.

It has been one hundred (100) days since Israel began it’s military assault on the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. Israel launched its much condemned military action in response to the October 8th 2022 attack on Southern Israel by Hamas militants.

The Hamas attack on Israel reportedly left over 1800 dead and scores of others kidnapped.
