12 Year Old Boy Kidnapped In Chitungwiza

Police have launched a manhunt for two unidentified suspects who allegedly kidnapped a 12 year old boy adolescent in Chitungwiza on January 20.

It alleged that the victim went outside the gate of their house in Manyame Park, looking for his younger brother aged five (5), when two strangers approached him asking for directions to a nearby shopping center.

According to a police report, the duo manhandled the minor before he even utter a word and dragged him inside their tToyota Wish vehicle, before driving off towards Seke Road at high speed.

It is alleged that as the duo approached Sunningdale, they stopped to changed seats, and that is when the minor took advantage, escaping, and sought refuge from a woman who was driving towards Chitungwiza.

The suspects allegedly gave chase but could not keep up with the boy, before eventually giving up and returning to their vehicle and driving off.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

He said, “On 20 January 2024, around 1800 hours, the complainant was outside the gate of his place of residence looking for his young brother, Ethan Kaseke, a male juvenile aged 5 years who was playing outside. A Toyota wish black in color, registration number unknown suddenly stopped in front of him, and two unknown male adults who were wearing black jackets disembarked and approached him.

“The two men asked the complainant for directions to Zanamwe, Shopping Centre, Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza. Before the complainant could answer them, the two manhandled him and put him in their motor vehicle, and drove into Seke Road towards Harare. On reaching Sunningdale area, Harare, they stopped, and one of the accused persons who was holding the complainant disembarked from the motor vehicle and went to the driver’s side. Complainant then jumped off the vehicle and crossed the road.

“The two accused persons gave chase, but failed to catch up with him. They gave up and went back to their motor vehicle and drove off. The complainant was assisted by one Nyarai Gwese who offered him transport to ZRP St Mary’s where a report was made. The scene was attended. The accused persons were not located. The complainant did not sustain any injuries.”
