Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts, Ivory Coast, last night crashed out Senegal 5 goals to 4 from the AFCON round of 16 competition in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Franck Kessie scored the winning spot-kick, having leveled the game from 12 yards in the final five minutes of normal time, after Habib Diallo’s early goal for the AFCON holders.

AFCON has not been a straightforward tournament for Ivory Coast, as their manager Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked after winning only one group game.

However, they squeezed into the knockouts as the lowest-ranked team, before appointing Emerse Fae to take charge of the rest of their tournament.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast will play either Burkina Faso or Mali on Saturday evening in Bouake.
