Three armed robbers allegedly lost their lives after being shot by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) yesterday during a gunfight in Gwanda.
The now deceased Pride Moyo, Newman Ncube and Ntokozo Ncube were shot before being taken to Gwanda District Hospital where they died upon admission.
The incident was confirmed by Paul Nyathi, the National Spokesperson for Zimbabwean Police.
The suspects were connected to two cases of robbery and one case of attempted murder, according to a ZRP statement. In one of the robberies, which happened on June 30, 2023, at the Insindi Ranch House, the suspects allegedly attacked two victims with pistols, a hunting knife, a cadix 38 revolver, and paper spray before making off with US$7,800 in cash, a FN9mm pistol with a 13-round magazine, and $200 worth of jewellery.
In another robbery case which occurred on 1January 2024 in Plumtree, the suspects, who were armed with fire arms attacked a victim before stealing US$74 000, ZAR 25 000 and a motor vehicle.
The now late suspects were also linked to the case of attempted murder which occurred in Cowdray Park on 1 August 2023, where three police officers were injured during shootout.
Meanwhile police are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Simelweyinkosi Dube who escaped from the scene during the shootout.
