Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for the suspects in a dramatic robbery that allegedly took place on the 17th of April 2024, at a Gain Cash and Carry outlet in Chitungwiza.
The robbery involved a six-member gang breaking into the premises of wholesaler Gain Cash and Carry, with the suspects allegedly getting away with over USD$10 000-00.
In a police report, Nesbet Tichaengwa, the complainant, stated that while he was on security guard duty at Gain Cash and Carry, six unidentified male adults wearing black clothing and face masks approached him.
He alleges that the suspects broke through the security fence to gain access inside the property.
Tichaengwa further alleges that after the gang gained entry into the premises, they disarmed him of his button stick and handcuffed him. The gang then allegedly enquired as to whether he had a firearm, to which he revealed that he wasn’t armed.
The suspects allegedly assaulted him, leaving him with a swollen leg and cuts to the head.
The suspects allegedly went to a standby Guard Alert car that was parked on the property and broke one of its windows, attacking the driver, Amos Mapito, leaving him with bruises all over his body.
After neutralizing the guards, the suspects then allegedly used a bolt cutter to break the padlock on the main entrance door and gained entry the warehouse.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.
