The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has announced that it is wrapping up its investigation into allegations of criminal and unethical behaviour made against two lawyers in Mutare.
Following the filing of a complaint alleging unethical behaviour regarding the sale of a residential stand in Mutare’s high-density Chikanga suburb, Cosmas Chibaya of Chibaya and Partners Legal Practitioners has been the subject of an investigation since 2022.
Chibaya is being accused alongside another lawyer, Medusa Simango of Mupindu Legal Practitioners. They are being accused of cooperating in the alleged crime by failing to carry out their professional responsibilities with diligence and honesty.
In a statement to reporters, the legal profession regulatory body’s Executive Secretary, Mr Edward Mapara said that the investigations were nearing completion.
The case was reportedly postponed due to the need for further investigations involving the two solicitors.
“This case ought to be finished by the end of May,” said Mapara.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe is the regulatory body for law firms and legal practitioners in Zimbabwe.
