Robbers Pounce On Vital Logistics & Steal Over US$57 000 & 71 000Rands

As the number of robberies keeps rising, yet another armed robbery has been reported in Harare. A Vital Logistics company was looted by six attackers who fled with US$57 077-00 and ZAR 71 000-00.

According to a report made to the police, Amon Guti and Courage Abton, both workers for Black Shark Security Company, were assigned to the Vital Logistics facility in Hatfield, Harare. Its alleged that three assailants wearing gloves and balaclavas approached Guti and pointed a pistol at him, allegedly ordering him to surrender his panic button, before force marching him to the warehouse, where  his colleague Abton was, it the guard room.

Its alleged that the suspects then tiled up the guards with shoelaces as an additional three additional suspects emerged from the shadows, forcing the security officers into a guard room where they were placed under  guard at gun point.

After neutralizing the guards, the suspects then proceeded to use an unidentified instrument to break through the main door and gain entry into the offices.

The suspects the allegedly broke into the server room, grabbed a Trendnet switch that links the building’s security cameras and cut the CCTV connection wires.

In addition, they allegedly destroyed all security systems and damaged the alarm box before entering the Data office and proceeded to ransack the place.

After breaking into two empty safes with a grinder, the accused allegedly used an unidentified object to open the Finance offices. After entering the Treasurer’s office, they allegedly used explosives to force open the safe, taking cash worth US$43 317-00, ZAR71 000-00, and an unspecified quantity of Redan fuel coupons.

A table drawer containing US$500–00 in cash was allegedly also taken by the suspects after they ransacked the Comox Finance office.

The suspects allegedly then proceeded to the Comox Managing Director’s office, broke down the door, and took a Samsung tablet and an HP Probook laptop.

They then allegedly went to the Vital Logistics’ CEO’s office and stole $12,560-00 in cash.

When the suspects had left, one of the guards, Guti, untied himself and hit the panic button, alerting a Securico Rapid Response Team which rushed to the scene of the crime.

A report was made at ZRP Hatfield.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) Spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress to bring the suspects to book.
